Clean A Cappuccino Maker

How to Clean A Cappuccino Maker?

To keep your cappuccino maker running properly, you should descale it at least once per year. This is especially important if your water supply tends to have hard water.

Descaling is the process of removing built up minerals inside the cappuccino maker. The buildup can cause the boiler to stop functioning properly and it could distort your coffee’s flavor. Most recommended product is Urnex Cleancaf Coffee Maker & Espresso Machine Cleaner and Descaler 3 Pack

The frequency that you should descale your cappuccino maker depends on a few factors. If you use your machine often, allow water to stand in the machine for extended time periods and know that you have hard water, you should clean the machine more often.

Before you begin the cleaning process, make sure the machine is off and has had time to cool completely. Next, pour descaling solution into the reservoir. You can either buy a commercial descaling solution or make a mix of 50/50 lemon juice and water.

Next, turn the appliance on and let water be pumped through the steam nozzle. Do this for about thirty seconds. Then, turn off the machine.

At this point, the machine should be cold and have cleaning solution in all parts that hold or transport water. After allowing ten minutes for the scale to dissolve, turn on the machine and let water run through it for at least thirty seconds, but no longer than ninety seconds. Turn the machine off again. To ensure that all the scale has been removed, repeat the process four or five times.

Since a bitter taste may remain in your cappuccino maker after using descaling solution, make sure to rinse out the machine. Just pour fresh water into the reservoir and run it through the machine. Do this a couple of times, using fresh water each time.

Now, the final step in how to clean a cappuccino maker is to simply make a pot of cappuccino and then dump it out. This helps to remove any remaining descaling solution from the inside of the appliance.

There are a few cleaning solutions that people say work that actually end up damaging or giving a bad taste to the espresso. The most common cleaners people use tend to be vinegar and critic acid. They can damage some components of espresso machines and the plastics inside the machine will absorb it and start to pass on odour and taste to the espresso. The machine will also not last as long and the citric acid ends up clogging the thin tubes inside the machine. Ideally, always buy a product that is specifically for descaling an espresso machine if you want it to last for a long time. Personally, I have found the Durgol brand to be very reliable and much faster. The frequency of this procedure varies according to the hardness of water. Soft water might only need descaling once a year, whereas if you are using spring water, you should do it monthly.
