Still, the question remains. How is coffee flavored? Every day new flavors and flavor combinations are being created. But how? Is coffee flavored with syrup, or are the beans subjected to a special kind of flavoring? Well, you’re about to find out.
The preferred method for flavoring gourmet coffee involves taking roasted beans and applying special oils. These are not regular oils, they are especially made for use in coffee bean flavoring. The highest quality oils are created with natural ingredients. This may be more expensive than something that is synthetic but the natural flavor is preserved better with natural ingredients. The richness of the coffee is also enhanced– something you don’t get with a synthetic substitute.
Believe it or not, the act of flavoring coffee has been around for a long time. Cinnamon was a common flavoring choice for South Americans and citrus flavored coffee was popular amongst Africans.

Does flavored coffee have more fat and calories than regular coffee?
It depends. Coffee made from flavored beans, such as chocolate macadamia nut (my favorite), is virtually calorie and fat free. Flavored beans are simply regular coffee beans that have been infused with compounds that offer more taste without any added calories. That said, powdered instant flavored coffees are made with added sugar and fat. Each six-ounce serving contains about 100 calories and three grams of fat. Sugar-free versions save on calories, but they still have fat. And those flavored syrups used by coffee shops also add calories.

What are the most popular flavor ?
The leading seller by far is hazelnut. The association of this flavor with coffee almost certainly rose from the long-standing association of Frangelico, a traditional Italian hazelnut-flavored liqueur, with coffee. With the second most popular flavor, Irish creme, the relationship may derive either from the liqueur of the same name, or, more likely, from one of the most popular American coffee drinks of all time, Irish coffee, with its combination of Irish whiskey, coffee, and lightly whipped cream. Other popular ones are Vanilla,Chocolate,Buttered rum, mint Caramel.
